 |
| A
case of serendipity? |
 |
| Whilst searching for a suture material
to use in open heart surgery, Nicole Bonzon, 28,
PhD research scientist at Bordeaux, fell upon a
novel material for the use in human
skin. | | | |
 |
 | |
 |
| Small
diameter blood vessels need to be sewn back together again and new
ones inserted to ensure perfect oxygenation of the heart muscle. The
material used in the stitching must not cause any swelling, allergy,
inflammation, scarring or sticking to other nearby tissues.
Furthermore its performance must be reliable and the material has to
last for a long time. |
 |
| And so,
cross-fertilisation of ideas. Why not take a similar material to use
in human skin? Afraid of the recent scare associated with animal
products, Nicole discarded two good animal-based products and set
her eyes upon man-made materials. The result –
poly(acrylamide-co-DADMA)
copolymer gel – the perfect solution. |
 |
| Two innovative products for medical
cosmetic use have been created by ProCytech of France as a response to the increasing
dissatisfaction with injectable fillers that quite
simply do not last, and permanent fillers that have been
associated with unpredictable
results. |
 |
| Procytech is proud to present
Outline, which lasts for at least two years, and
its sister Evolution,
which is permanent. |
 |
| Not only are the products innovative in their
longevity, but the very mode of action of the product is
ingenious – it is the first product that actually
encourages the body’s own tissue to become incorporated
into the implant, known as an ECM replacement
substance. | |
